Biography
Patricia Chaplin was born in London, England in 1949. Her father is a painter from Trinidad in the West Indies; her mother is Irish and was a model.
Patricia began painting at the age of seven as form of her own therapy, when she was sent to a strict English convent in Hartfordshire. After completing her education, she studied at the Academy St.Julien in Paris, and from there, Patricia traveled to Jerusalem where she spent a year at the Betsallel Art School.
When Patricia returned to Europe, she worked as a model in Paris and London where she met her husband, Michael Chaplin, the son of Hollywood legend, Charles Chaplin. Patricia and Michael led a bohemian lifestyle, living in different countries such as Morocco, Spain, Trinidad and Ireland before settling on a farm in the South west of France, where they raised their five children.
After the death of Oona Chaplin, in 1991 to whom Charles was married to for thirty four years, Patricia and Michael moved to Switzerland. There they helped transform the Chaplin family home into a museum. This is when the bulk of Patricia's current works of art began.
Patricia's father, Patrick Betaudier, teaches fine art to this day at Northern Illinois University. Patricia has shown and sold her work at several exhibitions from 1974 to 2002 in Trinidad, France, Italy, Switzerland and the United States.
Today Patricia and Michael live in Gruyeres, Switzerland, a small medieval town. Patricia continues to paint with passion every day.
